Islamic studies. Persian language and literature.

Primary research and expertise: Islamic mysticism, Classical Persian poetry and literature,  Politics and governments in the Middle East, translation, the politics of language, the Kabuli dialect, Afghanistan, Shiʾi-Sunni polemics, language pedagogy, .

I was awarded a master's degree (with highest honors) and a PhD in the fields of Islamic studies and Persian language and literature from the University of California, Berkeley.  I have additionally benefited from extensive studies in Persian poetry and Islamic studies with prominent scholars outside of academia.
